The struggle is real when it comes to sitting down, opening a book and reading continuously for three hours. Studying is one big challenge for many students at any level. Knowing the right way to find some enthusiasm in some subjects doesn’t help.
On today's show, Professor Andrew Martin joins Dina to share his observations as a professor at the University of New South Wales, Australia. Andrew is also on the Psychology Board of Australia as a Registered Psychologist specializing in student motivation and engagement, with some insightful thoughts on how parents can support this. Following his focus, Andrew authored multiple publications, including one that can be used as a research guide on how parents can participate in the process.
In this episode, Dina and Andrew talk about the process of studying at university and the types of autonomous motivation needed to get by. Dina shares her experiences with the university, including the positive transition into university life regarding having more autonomy.

Starting school is such a big time in a childs life; being able to explore a bigger part of the world, meeting new people, new experiences and learning a lot of new things. While some countries do have specific ages a child should start primary school, some children are likely to hold more skills than others by the time they reach the school age.
In today's episode of Raising Parents, Dina spoke to registered Psychologist, Ann-Elizabeth Magiris. Ann started working as an ABA therapist, in the early 2000’s, for children with autism. This led her to work with the Victorian school system to provide assessments for children learning difficulties and mental health plans. Ann-elizabeth became the owner of Healthy Young Minds in Bundoora, Victoria. HYM provides services on from School assessments and learning support to child counseling and parent coaching.
Tune into the episode to hear Ann and Dina define the “school readiness assessment” for parents and also provide information on what parents can do to prepare their children for school in the months before they’re set to start school.
