Lu Ngo: A Child’s Reflection on Parenting | Raising Parents #16

Talking about parenting, it is indeed a complex and challenging experience. We often discuss ways to improve our parenting skills, how to effectively resolve issues that arise with our children, and address many questions that parents have about raising children. However, have we ever considered looking at parenting through the perspective of a child?

In this episode of Raising Parents, host Dina Sargeant was joined by Lu Ngo, host of the Happiness Science podcast, “Seroboost”, and the Wellbeing Science podcast, “Doing Well”, on the LMSL Team. Five years ago, Lu made the big decision to choose Melbourne as her second home, moving from Hanoi, Vietnam to pursue her Master's Degree in Project Management.

With that background, Lu shared her perspective on her parents' parenting style and the challenges of traditional Southeast Asian upbringing, including emotional trauma caused by her parents' feelings toward each other. Lu emphasized the importance of working on oneself to become a good parent, especially in terms of dealing with past experiences and emotional trauma. They also agreed on how one's parenting style can affect future generations and stressed that parenting is not an easy task for both the parent and the child.
