Debbie Reber: Parental Awareness of Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders | Raising Parents #14
Raising a child with a disability can be a challenging and isolating experience. Despite there has been increasing awareness of challenges and needs of families of children with disabilities in recent years, many parents still face significant struggles to navigate systems and services available to support their child. Yet it is important to build a support network and find a community that understands the experience of raising an exceptional child.
In this episode of Raising Parents, host Dina Sargeant is joined by Deborah (Debbie) Reber, a parenting activist, bestselling author of “Differently Wired: A Parent’s Guide to Raising an Atypical Child with Confidence and Hope”, speaker, and the CEO and founder of TiLT Parenting, a resource, top-performing podcast, consultancy, and community with a focus on shifting the paradigm for parents raising and embracing neurodivergent children. TiLT Parenting is a resource and community built to provide support for parents who are raising differently-wired children, which their podcast has grown to be a top parenting podcast.
Debbie emphasized that parenting an exceptional child is a journey that requires a lot of patience, understanding, and resilience. According to her, parents must learn to recognize and appreciate the strengths and unique qualities of their children rather than focusing solely on their limitations. Besides, Debbie also shared her practices she does to improve her parenting of children with special needs and some good things she found after going through this practice.
